Ah were it that simple, Jim. Sadly Cherry was almost certainly sacked more for her ambitions to leadership of the SNP. Any perceived accession to transgender rights activism is only a little more than the neutering of a political rival masquerading as zero tolerance for transphobia.

Further, Cherry’s sacking has garnered much attention from sections of the press and among TERFdom and is being spun as martyrdom and another triumph of the tyranny of the all-powerful trans lobby. If only…

Meanwhile south of the border the government is now taking technical evidence for a public consultation into public toilets ‘for men and women’. This is a consultation that has received little to no fanfare yet the wording has my hackles rising as it seems designed to form the thin end of a wedge driven into our already parlous single sex space rights provisions.

Even if this consultation proves ultimately impotent its hard not to read it as significant of the continued push for the erosion of trans rights by a small but influential contingent amongst government and academia.

Still, Cherry’s sacking, for whatever reason, is cause for celebration. One down…
