Erm.

Wait…The Wasp Factory is trans phobic??! How so?

If anything we could pin the protagonist’s murders on the infant abuse inflicted by the father in trying to make a cis child of one gender into the other. Shall we talk about the experiments of John Money?

Frances is emphatically not transgender. I mean not that there aren’t plenty of examples of the trope you point to both in film and print. But if anything The Wasp Factory is a cautionary tale about the power of gender in asserting itself. Frank’s killing is arguably his expression of gender dysphoria at being a cis female raised as a boy.

Capricious by name, steadfast by nature. Trans femme dyke. Smutsmith. Provocateur. Witch. Poet. Slut. Idiot. Kicking names and taking ass.
