Hi Janelle

I realise I’m a little late to the party (thank Medium’s algorithm…) but I loved the article and wanted to point out that I have something similar in mind.

A year on I dare say you’re a ways into your project. I started in September and am 60,000 words into a first draft that will likely end up as double that.

My story is a high fantasy novel of high stakes and where the protagonists’ identities are central (but not their genders…). One or more of the central characters are queer. The man protagonists are a lesbian couple. Queerness of other kinds abounds as I try to tackle prejudice that stems from difference.

I’m being coy because it’s too easy to give a lot away.

So… You’re not the only one ushering a queer genre piece into the world.

If you’d like to compare notes lemme know and we can discuss more privately.

But thank you for saying out loud what you have. I’m not alone. You’re not alone. And we have something to say.

Warmest regards

Abbie
