You might refer to my reply to Eoin’s comment regarding this issue. Conflation of gender identity and sexual orientation is an issue, primarily for the cishet population. What is more worrying is how many in the queer community reacted with disapprobation to Elliot Page’s announcement. This points to even many queer people viewing trans identities with suspicion but when the cost is so high its hard to imagine why anyone would ‘choose’ to be trans escapes. Indeed, I spent 48 years ‘living’ a cisgender heterosexual life before coming out as a gay trans woman.
